Wiederkehr Bio PDF Print E-mail

Macrina Wiederkehr is a Benedictine who makes her home with the sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. She is a prolific writer whose books draw from her deep roots in the monastic tradition and contemplative living, as well as from her great love of poetry and reading. Although her academic background is in elementary and religious education, she says her best learning flows from the wisdom school of daily life.

Macrina travels widely to bring her much-sought-after knowledge and wisdom to retreats and conferences. She drinks liberally from the springs of creation; she finds healing in the seasons that pass through our lives and over our fields.

Macrina leads seekers on a contemplative path away from wordiness, into the space between the words, where silent reflection can lead to greater closeness to God, even to union with God.

“As the earth turns away from the sun, an ancient longing returns to my soul. It is a yearning for completion… My very being cries out to the living God… This day’s troubles will end. When I meet them tomorrow, they may be tinged with blessing. I walk through the remaining hours of this day as I would walk through the last pages of a much loved book.”
